Tesla Energy announced that Australia's first 8-hour long-duration battery system is now operating in Limondale, New South Wales. Built by energy company RWE, the facility uses 144 Tesla Megapacks to store renewable energy generated during the day for use during evening peak demand and into the night.

According to Tesla Energy, the Megapacks charge twice as fast as they discharge, allowing the system to capture more daytime renewable generation and extend that stored energy into later hours. The 8-hour duration rating indicates the battery can sustain full power output for that period before depleting.

The deployment marks a milestone for long-duration energy storage in Australia as the grid continues to integrate higher levels of variable renewable generation. Long-duration batteries have become increasingly important for grid stability as solar and wind penetration rises.
