Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi will use a color-coded light system to solve a key challenge in ride-hailing: ensuring passengers board the correct vehicle and are charged the right fare. According to reporting from Teslarati, the Cybercab will utilize an RGB strip in its front light bar that illuminates in a variety of different colors to identify individual ride requests.

The approach addresses a practical problem in autonomous ride services where multiple robotaxis may be waiting in the same area. By assigning each ride a unique color, the system helps passengers quickly identify their assigned vehicle while also preventing mix-ups that could lead to billing errors or passengers ending up in the wrong car.

Tesla has not yet disclosed additional details about how riders will be informed of their assigned color or how the system will integrate with the Cybercab's booking interface. The company has been expanding its robotaxi operations, recently extending service hours and growing its unsupervised fleet in select markets.
