Musk proposes AI competitors test each other's models for safety
Elon Musk suggests major AI firms use mutual security testing to improve safety standards.

Elon Musk outlined a new approach to AI safety oversight at the All-In Summit, proposing that competing AI developers scrutinize one another's systems. "What I think would be wise to do as soon as possible, if not immediately, would be to have the major AI competitors test each other's models," Musk said, explaining that "you would have everyone's security test harness testing."
The proposal centers on creating adversarial peer review mechanisms where rival companies would evaluate the safety and security posture of competing AI systems. By having multiple independent teams stress-test models, Musk's approach aims to catch vulnerabilities that a single developer might miss, distributing the burden of safety verification across the industry.
The idea reflects broader concerns about AI safety and governance as large language models and autonomous systems become more sophisticated. Rather than relying solely on internal safety protocols or government regulation, Musk's model would leverage competitive dynamics to enforce higher standards across the sector.
