"🇩🇪 Giga Berlin Plans Expansion of Production to 1 Million Vehicles Per Year, almost a 200% increase

According to rbb reports, Tesla plans to significantly expand its production in the coming years with a new, much larger production hall and additional infrastructure to eventually increase capacity to 1 million vehicles per year. Construction is set to begin in 2027.

Already in the earlier phases of construction Tesla informed about the goal of 1 Million vehicles per year but now the construction will start. Currently Giga Berlin supposed to have achieved 7,500 units per week which is about 375,000 units per year which illustrates that an increase by almost 200% is planned.

Tesla is therefore planning a second production hall north of the existing plant. According to rbb reports, it is expected to cover approximately 536,000 square meters more than twice the size of the current hall, which spans about 219,000 square meters. Ultimately, up to one million vehicles per year are expected to roll off the assembly line in Grünheide.

Tesla “As early as 2023, Tesla outlined the phased expansion of the Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory in its application for partial approval and detailed the associated environmental impacts. The approval notice dated October 15, 2024, confirmed that the project is, in principle, eligible for approval. The planned partial permit application for the northern production building builds on this. Once the permit is granted, it will allow for the construction of this building.”

According to rbb reports, Tesla plans to submit the new applications to the permitting authorities in December. Construction of the new hall is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027. Overall, the expansion is planned to take place over a period of about ten years."
