Driver compares new FSD to early version: "1000x better"
A Tesla owner who previously dismissed Full Self-Driving says the latest version performs dramatically differently from the 2017 release.
A Tesla owner who spent three years driving a BMW said the latest version of Full Self-Driving is unrecognizable compared to the early iteration he experienced nearly a decade ago. "I just bought a new Model Y and can confidently say cars and Teslas are no longer the same product," the driver wrote on X. "Tesla with FSD is a transportation robot."
The owner noted that when he first tried FSD on a 2017 Model 3, it felt "like slightly better cruise control" and was "honestly felt oversold," despite working well on highways. After years away from Tesla, he recently tested the current system on a trip from the Fremont factory to his home 30 minutes away. He described the experience as requiring nothing but entering an address and "pushing a button."
"Holy shit — it's a personal Waymo," he wrote. "Works perfectly." He attributed widespread skepticism about FSD's capabilities to the gap between early and current versions, comparing the leap to the generational difference between GPT 3.5 and newer AI systems. "I don't think most people realize how good this is, probably because they only experienced an early version previously. This is 1000x better."
"Try Tesla self-driving. It will blow your mind! Quoting @arampell: “I just bought a new Model Y and can confidently say cars and Teslas are no longer the same product. A car is like a pony or horse. I still like driving a stick shift, it’s fun! Tesla with FSD is a transportation robot. I had one of the first Model 3s in 2017. FSD was basically slightly better cruise control.
